Course details

This construction project management short course, with an emphasis on programming & planning, provides delegates with an understanding of the knowledge and skills required to operate as a construction project manager (CPM) in the context of property and construction industries. It is delivered online and is self-managed but has the addition of tutor support via forums and discussion areas.

The construction project manager (CPM) plays a key role at all stages of the construction process for diverse client organisations that operate in a dynamic environment.

Time commitment

5 hours per week (estimated)

The total study time for completing this course is 60 hours. Spread over a 12-week course this equates to five hours per week.

This estimate includes time for you to read or view a resource more than once, as well as time for you to take notes and undertake the online assessments.

Delivered online with tutor-support, you are able to stop and restart the course as you progress – working at a time and place that suits your needs. You will be guided through the course by the interactive material and advised the best way to progress throughout.

Course objectives

At the end of this course you should be able to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of programming and planning in construction
  • demonstrate a broad knowledge of the associated concepts and theories
  • create a precedence network
  • identify the critical path and subsequently produce a Gannt Chart
  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of allocating resources to a programme
  • produce a detailed method statement
  • select appropriate approaches to managing construction time and cost.

Course structure

A twelve-week course delivered online with tutor-support and online forums.

The online delivery method will allow you to study wherever you may be. Whilst the course tutor will be available through the discussion forums to answer any questions and guide you through the study material and topics.

This course is made up of related topics:

  • Introduction to construction project management
  • Project definition, briefing and the stakeholder
  • Planning
  • Scheduling
  • Monitoring & Control
  • Resource management
  • Method statements
  • Project risk management including health and safety
  • Quality control, handover procedure, soft landings

The assessment is continuous throughout the course by means of multiple choice quizzes and case studies so you can judge your learning as you progress through the course.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, delegates with 2 or more years relevant industry experience would benefit most from this course.

Certificate

Finally, on successful completion of the course you will receive a UCEM certificate of completion for “Principles of Construction Programming and Planning”.

You will be tested with online quizzes throughout the course. You must achieve 60% or more in each quiz to successfully complete the course. Additional attempts will be permitted should you not be successful on your first attempt.

Cancellation policy

UCEM Online Academy recognises that a change in circumstances can sometimes be unavoidable and that delegates who register for a scheduled event may need to withdraw or change their original registration.

If you are unable to attend this scheduled CPD course you are booked on, you may request to substitute another person to attend in your place provided you notify us in writing at academy@ucem.ac.uk at least five working days before the event.

Refunds are calculated as follows upon receipt of the written request to academy@ucem.ac.uk

·         More than 28 days before the course start date: UCEM Online Academy will retain 20% of the fees due.

·         28-14 days before the course start date: UCEM Online Academy will retain 50% of the fees due.

·         Less than 14 days before the start date: UCEM Online Academy will retain 100% of the fees due.

In the unlikely event of UCEM Online Academy withdrawing a course, all course fees paid will be refunded, however UCEM Online Academy will not be liable for any other costs or losses incurred.
