Multi Factor Authentication FAQ

What is MFA?

MFA provides greater protection to user accounts by requiring users to use both a password and a second verification method, such as a code, which is obtained through a device the account holder owns.

Why do I need to have MFA enabled?

MFA adds an additional layer of security which provides additional protection for your Online Academy account.

Where do I get the Authenticator from?

You can download either the Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator on your smartphone; these applications are available from the Apple App Store and the Android Play Store respectively.

What happens if I get a new phone or lose my current phone?

You will need to set up MFA again on your new phone. If you are struggling with this, we can assist you; just contact academysupport@ube.ac.uk

Do I need internet access to use MFA?

Once the authenticator application has been installed and synchronised you do not require an internet connection to generate a code.

I already have an Authenticator application; can I still use this for my Online Academy account?

Yes, you can add an additional account to your Authenticator application. We recommend using Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.

How often do I need to enter a code?

You will need to enter a MFA code at every logon.
