Description
Reducing Energy Use Through Active Building Design
It’s becoming more and more important for built environment professionals to be able to take part in informed conversations about methods for reducing energy use and carbon emissions. We’ve designed this course specifically to help you to join the conversation, and to build your knowledge and skills to prepare you to make an impact in your own roles.
In this six-hour online CPD course, you’ll become familiar with active design approaches to reducing energy use and carbon emissions in buildings. Terms such as ‘whole life carbon’ and ‘net zero’ are not yet widely understood, even among built environment professionals, so learning key terminology and metrics will be a critical first step in being able to quantify and reduce carbon emissions in building projects.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
-
- identify how active measures can reduce energy use and operational carbon;
- identify the various active systems in buildings, including heat pumps and MVHR units;
- explain the effect that smart control systems can have on heating requirements;
- identify the benefits of renewable energy technologies and systems.
Time commitment
The total estimated study time for completing this course is 6 hours. This estimate includes time for you to read or view a resource more than once, as well as time for you to take notes and undertake the online assessment.
