About this Seminar
Buildings have long term impacts to the environment and the society.
The Building Sector in Hong Kong started addressing the issue of Green Buildings back in the mid- 90s. Since then, the industry has been building up its capacity from developing bench-marking tools, researches to training up of professionals. At the same time, various drivers demanding the industry to go for higher environmental standards and performance have also been emerging. The Paris agreement in 2015 had called for a “below 2 deg C” target for the whole world to achieve. The target means near net Zero Carbon Emission by 2050. How the building sector can meet that target will be a huge challenge.
The presentation will cover the following four key areas:
- Illustrations of sustainable design features of traditional buildings and how the environmental impacts of buildings increase with social and economic development in cities
- The green building movement in Hong Kong since the mid-90s. From Green buildings to sustainable built environment
- What are the drivers at different stages that drive the government and the industry to go for green buildings and sustainable cities?
- What the building sector worldwide, is doing to combat climate change and can Hong Kong go for net Zero Emission?
